37 Weeks - Baby Room Update!
It's done!! Mel, Scarlet, and Des came over today and helped me organize the baby room. All the clothes and blankets are washed and put away. The changing table, bouncer, and bassinet are all assembled. We even put up a few decorations! It seems like we only need a little baby at this point. And pictures galore:

36 Weeks, 6 Days
I'm pretty much full term as of tomorrow but I can expect this little bub any time between now and the next 5 weeks.
I just found out that my Group B Strep test came back positive. I've had a fairly smooth pregnancy thus far and I guess I can expect to have a bump in the road. Since I tend to obsessively read about everything that comes up, I've already spoken with Dr. Google. Well, actually I lied. I obsessively read about it before I went in for my 36 week appointment, since I knew I'd be having the test done (and then I stalked my online Kaiser account for test results until they came in). It's pretty common and about 15-40 percent of women test positive at any given time. Also, chances of it getting passed to the baby are low - like 1 in 2-300, but is dangerous for the bub if contracted, however harmless to me. Basically, I'll get antibiotics administered before or during labor to avoid passing it to the bub. Fun fun. Oh and the test was even more awesome. I'll tell you that.
Otherwise, I've been feeling pretty good and feel like I have plenty of energy. The bub does jolt me with some actually quite painful jabs these days to the point where I actually shout out in pain! What a little monster! However, it still makes me laugh.
Oh and I finally got my grades for the term and ended up with a 3.66 GPA. For the first term of grad school after not being in school for 5 years, it's not too shabby. I'm actually looking forward to returning to school in September (I know I'm crazy).

36 Weeks, 4 Days part two
Dave's family came up to visit over the weekend and we had a blast! They were able to make the baby shower and Sunday morning, Trish and I had a chance to explore Hawthorne a bit and grab a bite to eat at the Cup and Saucer. On Monday, Dave and the "boys" went out to a Blazers game while the girls went out for a delicious dinner at Mama Mia downtown.
I realized this was the only picture I had of the whole gang (minus Trish):
They were watching to make sure Dave put together the last bits of the jogging stroller: a gift from all of Dave's family. We were so stoked about it. In fact, Dave couldn't stop talking about it last night ;).

So here's the baby room post-shower. It looks like I have my work cut out for me!
In addition to the stroller, Dave's mom and stepfather, Bruce, brought us up an absolutely gorgeous crib and dresser. I was so excited that I made everyone assemble it that night!
And I helped!
I find myself walking into the room a couple times a night just to stare at it in all its glory. Last night, even Dave was excited to raid Target and BabysRUs with me to get the last items we need....a hamper, storage totes, changing table, diaper bag, etc. I was well-equipped with coupons galore and some gift cards and we made out like bandits. We even made it back in time to hunker down in front of the tube and catch the Biggest Loser (my personal TV weakness).
I had my 36 week appointment today. I'm measuring normal and everything is on track. I had to take the Strep B test this week, which was less than pleasant. However, my doctor did perform a quick ultrasound to make sure the bub was positioned correctly....and yes, he is head down and good to go! I only got to see his cranium, but it was the most beautiful cranium that ever was. I swear. Also, my doctor made the slight comment of: we'll it looks like he may very well come a little before 40 weeks. I can't put too much stock in that since no uterus is alike, but a shimmer of hope glistened for a moment there.

36 Weeks
36 Weeks! Wow! That's like very pregnant. Oh boy and do people know it when they see me. Lately, I've felt like I'm walking around with a huge, lit-up billboard that says, "Very pregnant lady coming through!!" People don't try to hide it now; they don't even attempt the polite ogle-and-glance-away. It's an all out stare these days. I'm perfecting the pregnant lady look-o-death glare response but I feel sort of bad because before I was pregnant I'm sure I stared too. I did master a good death glare the other day. When walking by some bar, a guy in a group sitting outside for happy hour yelled out..."hey pregnant chick!" Believe me, all sorts of obscenities and and insults came through my mind. I just about turned around and gave them the bird....but I held my fierce prego control and simply gave them an all-out amazing look-o-death. I'm pretty sure they shuddered in fear.
Now, I have to say it's official-- staying active during pregnancy helps keep the aches and pains to a minimum. I've kept up the yoga to about 3-5 hours per week and have tried to get in at least a couple miles of walking a day-- by getting off the bus early and walking a few extra blocks, walking to class and back, walking to work, to the grocery store, breakfast on the weekends. I just try to incorporate it throughout the day. I've also done some minimal weight-training and I've added a few minutes of stretching at the end of almost every day. And so far, I feel strong and energetic! I only get a little back pain at the end of the day and pelvic pain at night. I spoke with a friend of mine who used to work at a gym this week (as we were walking together on our lunch break from work). She told me that all the women who continued to work out during pregnancy complained very little of pains in comparison to those who didn't or quit early. Now I know that there are many situations in pregnancy that can make exercising difficult or impossible, but I've been very lucky to avoid that. Looking back, I really think that staying active has helped me immensely.
So, I took a photo last night of the monstrosity after I'd consumed a burrito and was feeling rather full. I took a photo this morning post digestion and end of the day fluid retention and I look so much smaller. In reality, I'm somewhere in-between this photo and the next:
So I finished the term off early by turning in my final paper Monday night. Can you believe it??? Ms. Procrastinator Extraordinaire finished a paper early!! The moons must be misaligned! But....it felt so great to be done. I did it! I completed my first term of grad school! I've taken Spring term off so I won't have to return to school until the little bub is about 5 months old.
Even with school over, I've still been busy these days. Dave's family is planning to come up to visit today, however I have not heard yet whether or not they've left. Trish and Kim (Dave's mom) have both gotten sick this week and they're worried someone else may come down with it. If all goes well though (as I hope), we'll get to see them this evening! We've been looking forward to their visit for weeks now. We even spent all night Thursday scrubbing this apartment so it looks pristine!
Des came over Wednesday night and the three of us cleaned out the remaining boxes in the spare room and organized the baby stuff. It's all ready and waiting for the furniture. Last night, I went out and bought a bunch of travel toiletries and other items I would need for the hospital bag. I also found a robe at Ross last week. I'm going to try and get it packed today so I'm ready to go when the time comes (be it a week from now to 6 weeks from now). It seems like things are all coming together nicely. When I'm done, I'm not sure what I'll do with myself.

35 Weeks
How big have gotten in the last two weeks? Well here's 33 weeks for reference:

Week 35 stats:
Baby is pushing 5.5 pounds and is over 20 inches long (boy howdy!). Most women gain about 24-29 pounds at this point (my scale at home says I'm up 30-31--they lie!!). Baby's finger nails are long enough to scratch himself with (oh boy). Most women feel cramped and heavy around this time (YES! I can't bend over much or he'll kick me in the ribs, competing for space!). Your cervix will begin to dilate and efface over the next few weeks (sounds just about right). UPDATE: Please note, these figures are estimates I found online, not actual measurements of my own little bub.
I can't seem to get enough cottage cheese these days.

34 Weeks, 6 days
First of all, my co-workers threw me an awesome baby shower on Sunday. I was so overwhelmed! I've been so busy this week, I haven't even had time to upload the pictures to my computer. I'll give it my full attention in my next entry. In the meantime, I'll just say that it was fantastic and Dave and I came home with a car full of baby gear!
Phew! It's been a long week. I had my last class on Wednesday and my final paper due next week. Procrastinator by nature, I finished my 12 page research paper at 9 pm on Monday for my Public Policy class. The professor happened to be in the office when I went to turn it in on 9:30 and we chatted for a bit. Truthfully, I think I was even a little early, because it wasn't really due until midnight ;).
Of course once school is over for the term, I still won't have much time to breathe. I have much to do: clean and tidy the apartment, scrub the floors, kitchen, bathroom, wash EVERYTHING. Plus, I really have a hankering to organize all of the baby stuff even though I don't have a place to put all of it yet. I also need to get a hospital bag together. I want to get started now but I have to get this paper out of the way before I can go to town on these projects.
On the baby front, I think I may have started to lose bits of the 'plug' today. I won't go into detail but it means that my body's getting prepared. I've also had some sharp pain in my cervix region last night-- not contractions or anything. I'm not too concerned, as I haven't had any signs of labor, bleeding, or other discomfort. In general, I feel great-- even more energetic lately, albeit a bit sleepier in general (is that possible??).
Dave's family is coming into town next week. And with it, I have another baby shower that my old high school buddies are throwing us. It'll mainly be old friends of mine from back in the day, friends of the fam, and Dave and my immediate family. I'm really looking forward to it.
Anyway, I've got some laundry to get started on (procrastinator is my name) and I really want to get cracking on my final paper. Pictures from the shower will follow shortly!
